Who We Are
Housing For Good is a privately funded program that aims to transform Ashtabula County through Affordable Housing. This is not a government program and is not currently funded by any state or local taxes. This allows us the flexibility to truly impact the people and areas that need it the most while partnering with employers headquartered in or near Ashtabula County.
How It Works
Housing For Good partners with employers that are headquartered in or near Ashtabula County. These employers then have the opportunity to offer the program to their employees after they have worked with that employer for 12 consecutive months. Once a Participant has initially qualified for the program, they are interviewed through our proprietary underwriting process that aims to help pave the road to homeownership. All potential Participants may not qualify right away.
Once a Participant has been approved for the program, Housing For Good will help identify a home in Ashtabula County that meets their families specific needs. Rent/lease option payments for the 6-8 months will be determined by the participants after tax or take home pay and will vary. The goal is to establish a monthly lease/rent payment at no more than 25% of the Participant take home pay.
Over the next 6-8 months the Participant will be required to complete various educational modules that include but are not limited to: basic finance, budgeting, minor home repair, nutrition & wellness, interpersonal communication & conflict resolution and career planning.
At the end of the 6-8 months, the Participant will have the opportunity to purchase the home from Housing For Good at below market value. The goal will be for the Participant to have 10-15% equity in their new home or more.
The Participant will also have the opportunity to have a portion of the rent they have paid over the last 6-8 months returned to them at closing to help offset any closing cost of fees.
